This was an incredible trip! Boo Stone was fantastic and very knowledgeable on things, and the guides and drivers were amazing, especially Vincent. We were able to experience so many different things and areas of Uganda, which will all be unforgettable and unique! I truly had the trip of a lifetime and it hit several areas that were important to me on my bucket list - not only the gorillas and that totally unbelievable experience (fabulous trekking!), but also the chimpanzee trekking and seeing them in the natural habitat without a gate between us. Such a great adventure! And the rhinos sanctuary was a special place - honored to be with those large animals, and the tent I stayed in was perfect. I woke up the next morning and saw two rhinos just grazing near my tent - incredible! All the other spots like Murchison Falls were also great things to capture their beauty and see. I never thought I would be able to tell people I took a boat ride down the Nile River! Maybe a bigger boat there with a toilet so we can do a little more wine or beer consumption! Another game drive at night would be fun as well. - they are so exciting. All of the people of Uganda that we encountered along the way - and the porters, wait staff, and hotel staff were so welcoming, sweet, and accommodating.
Since we did cover a lot of areas of the country for those varied experiences, we were on the road a lot - maybe too much - possibly make the trip a few days longer to incorporate more rest days after 5-8 hour road drives, and to also be able to take advantage of the great rooms and amenities of the spectacular venues. Maybe at those extra nice properties we stay an extra day, just to enjoy the pool for the day, spa treatment, or recoup from the long travel days in between. I think we had too many one night stays which were hard on everyone.
I know you are aware of the village visit and food we provided so I am not going into much detail since I think the other ladies covered that. Great effort, just planned too last minute and you really need a third party organization to actually hand the food out and set it all up.
The jeep situation on seating was interesting, but I enjoyed everyone's company and went between both jeeps. As friendships develop on these intense trips, it is nice to ride on the same jeep with specific ladies as you are bonding the longer drives. It also helps if both drivers talk a bit more about what we are seeing or towns we are going through so we can learn a little of the area and the history or customs.
I was a bit sick on the trip, but everyone was terrific when had to make a few extra potty stops! I am an event planner and also do public relations for clients, so I look at at things a bit differently so some planning items maybe could have been handled better, but overall it was a fantastic trip that I will never forget. I am so lucky to be able to see these animals up close and learn about a lovely country as well as more of Africa!
I would do a trip like this again. I know how much planning and work goes into setting these trips up and the small details involved and the on-the-spot decisions that have to be made with last minute changes. Kudos to you and Boo! It was lovely.
